Old Doha: museums, souq and the Corniche
1. Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)
I. M. Pei's limestone masterpiece sits on its own island at the end of the Corniche. Entry is free, the collection spans 1,400 years, and MIA Park behind it has the single best photo of the West Bay skyline. Allow two hours; go at 4 pm and stay for sunset.
2. Souq Waqif
The souq is Doha's living room: spice lanes, the falcon souq (falcons for sale next to a falcon hospital), the Gold Souq, shisha cafés and restaurants from Iraqi to Moroccan. It comes alive after 5 pm. Bargain gently — prices are already fair.
3. The Corniche
Seven kilometres of waterfront linking MIA to West Bay. Walk it at dusk when the dhows light up and the towers switch on. The Pearl Monument and the dhow harbour are the classic stops.
4. Msheireb Downtown & the Fanar spiral minaret
The world's first sustainable downtown — museums in restored heritage houses, a tram, and the spiral minaret of the Fanar Islamic Cultural Centre a short walk away.

5. Khor Al Adaid (the Inland Sea)
A UNESCO-recognised natural reserve 60 km south of Doha where dunes slide straight into a tidal sea. You cannot drive there in a rental car — a licensed 4x4 with a certified dune driver is required. The half-day safari includes dune bashing, a camel ride, sandboarding and sunset on the ridge above the water.
6. Sealine Beach & Mesaieed dunes
The gateway to the desert: quad biking, camel rides and beach camps. Most safaris stop here to deflate tyres before the dunes.
7. Overnight desert camp
Sleep under the stars in a Bedouin-style camp with a barbecue dinner, shisha and sunrise over the dunes. The best value 'wow' night in Qatar.
