Sealine Beach, Qatar: The Gateway to the Dunes — What to Do and How to Get There

Where the tarmac ends and the dunes begin — quad bikes, beach and the road to the Inland Sea.

Sealine is where Qatar's south coast road gives up and the sand takes over. Every desert safari stops here to deflate tyres, and many visitors come for the day on their own: a beach, a resort, quad-bike stalls and the first big dunes within sight of the car park.

• The public beach — calm water, popular with residents at weekends.
• Sealine Beach Resort for day passes, pools and lunch.
• Quad and buggy hire at the dune edge (from around QAR 100 for 30 minutes).
• Camel and horse rides along the shore on weekend afternoons.
• The start of the dune track to the Inland Sea — 4x4 with deflated tyres only.

Getting there

Take the Al Wakrah road south, continue past Mesaieed's industrial area and follow the signs for Sealine — about an hour from West Bay. There is no public transport; Karwa taxis will take you but the return can be hard to arrange. All our safaris include the transfer, and a private chauffeur can wait if you want a beach day with a dune drive at the end.

Quad biking: what to know

Rental is informal and cash-based. Check the brakes and throttle before paying, wear the helmet, stay on the marked practice dunes unless you are experienced, and go before 4 pm in summer. Children under 16 should ride as passengers only. On a private safari we can build in 30–60 minutes here before heading to the Inland Sea.

A day at Sealine without a safari

Mesaieed and Al Wakrah on the way

Al Wakrah, 20 minutes south of Doha, has a rebuilt heritage souq on a working fishing beach — quieter than Souq Waqif, excellent seafood, and a good late-morning stop. Mesaieed itself is an industrial port; drive through. If you have a 4x4 and experience, the 'singing dunes' at Al Kharrara are a short detour west of the Sealine road.

Safety at the beach and dunes

• Swim only where families are swimming; rip currents form on windy days.
• Do not take a rental car onto the sand — two-wheel-drives get stuck within metres and recovery costs QAR 300+.
• Quad rental is unregulated: check brakes, wear the helmet, stay on the practice area.
• Weekends are busy from 3 pm; go on a weekday for empty dunes.

Sealine Beach Resort day passes

The resort sells day passes (around QAR 150 adults, QAR 75 children on weekdays, more at weekends) for the pool, the beach and showers, with lunch available. It is the sensible base for a beach day without a safari — changing rooms, shade and cold drinks — and the dunes begin behind the car park. Book at the gate; weekends fill by noon in winter.
