Five days is enough to see the whole country properly — including a night in the desert.
Most visitors give Qatar two days and leave feeling they have seen it. Five days shows you a different country: a night under the desert stars, mangroves and a 250-year-old fort in the north, a day on the Gulf, and time to eat properly. Here is the plan.
| At a glance | |
|---|---|
| Days 1–2 | Doha |
| Day 3 | Overnight desert |
| Day 4 | North coast |
| Day 5 | The sea |
| Best months | Oct–Apr |
Day 1 — Arrival and Old Doha
Airport transfer to your hotel, then straight to Souq Waqif for an evening walk and dinner. If you land early, the Museum of Islamic Art from 3 pm and MIA Park at sunset.
Day 2 — Museums and the bay
National Museum in the morning, Msheireb Museums after lunch, and a sunset dhow cruise. Dinner at The Pearl.
Day 3 — Overnight desert safari
Free morning (Katara or Education City), then the overnight safari from 3 pm: dune bashing, the Inland Sea, barbecue dinner, a night in a Bedouin tent and sunrise on the dunes. Back in Doha by 9.30 the next morning.
Day 4 — The north coast
After a late breakfast, a private day up the coast: Al Zubarah Fort and its UNESCO town, Al Thakira mangroves, lunch in Al Khor, a swim at Fuwairit. Evening at Lusail Boulevard on the way back.
Day 5 — The sea, then home
A morning yacht charter from The Pearl or a Banana Island day pass, late checkout, and a transfer to the airport. If your flight is late, squeeze in the Falcon Souq.

Pacing and rest
The plan alternates active and gentle days: museums (gentle), overnight desert (active), the north (moderate), the sea (gentle). Jet lag from Europe is minimal (+1 to +2 hours); from the Americas and Australia, keep day one light and do the desert on day three as written, when you have adjusted.
Hotel strategy
- Nights 1–2: city (Souq Waqif or West Bay).
- Night 3: the desert camp — your hotel keeps luggage; take one small bag.
- Night 4: back to the city, or move to The Pearl / Banana Island for a resort finish.
- Ask hotels for a late checkout on day five; most oblige for a night-time flight.
Add-ons if you have a sixth or seventh day
- Zekreet and Film City on the west coast — Richard Serra's sculpture and the mushroom rocks.
- A stadium tour of Lusail and the 3-2-1 Olympic and Sports Museum.
- Sheikh Faisal Museum — a private collection of 30,000 objects in a desert fort.
- A second night in the desert at a different camp, or a dhow overnight.
- Camel racing (Fri/Sat, Oct–Apr) and the falcon hospital.
FAQs
Not if you leave Doha: the overnight desert safari, the north coast and a day at sea each earn a day. A week is comfortable with a beach-resort day added.
